A second Polk County parent had a brush with the law after losing his temper while trying to pick up his daughter from Eastside Elementary School.

According to Rockmart Police Department reports, Brady Lamar Gravitt of Rockmart was issued a citation Oct. 28 for disorderly conduct after he admitted to cursing at Vice Principal Bridgett Kirsch in front of his daughter.

The police report stated Gravitt had come into the building to pick up his daughter and Kirsch told him he would have to get in line with the other parents for pick up.

Kirsch told police Gravitt then walked out of the office and into the lunchroom, where children were waiting for pick-up, and yelled across the room for his daughter.

She said he was then asked to step back into her office and he did so, with his daughter in tow. It was then that Gravitt began using obscene language, the report said.

There were no other children involved, according to the report.

Gravitt told police the account given by Kirsch was accurate.

This the second time this school year where parents and school officials have had conflicts resulting in police action.

However, in this case, Gravitt was only issued a citation and was not banned from the school.

Louis Arant was given a criminal trespass warning and banned from Van Wert Elementary School Sept. 24 after school officials filed a police report stating his behavior was a “safety issue.”

The Arants deny any such behavior and are challenging the ban. They have hired an attorney and are scheduled to speak at the Polk County School District Board of Education meeting Tuesday. The meeting begins at 6:30 p.m. at the central office on South College Street.

The couple said their attorney is working to resolve the issue before the meeting.

Arant said problems with school officials stemmed from safety concerns he had over how children were picked up and dropped off. The school has since changed that process.

School officials have not stated what Arant did to cause safety concerns, but said he acted “inappropriately.” However, they also said he never threatened anyone, wasn’t cursing, wasn’t yelling and wasn’t carrying any type of weapon.

Officials also said the disturbance stated in the police report was that other parents wouldn’t leave the campus until Arant left.
