TOCCOA, Ga. (AP) — The Georgia Army National Guard says members of the 108th Cavalry will begin a march from Toccoa to Atlanta early Wednesday to commemorate a trek made during World War II.

In 1942, members of the Army's 101st Airborne Division made a 118-mile march from Toccoa to Atlanta before heading to Columbus to begin parachute training.

The Guard unit plans to begin its march at the armory in Toccoa and arrive two days later at Oglethorpe University. Members of the unit will take part in the Atlanta Veterans Day parade scheduled for Saturday.

Not a good idea IMO but good luck. 1942 was a "forced marched".

" November, 1942

Georgia (Accuracy: Unspecified)

In November, the 506th Regiment was ordered to Fort Benning, Georgia, for parachute training in C&D stage. The 1s Bn moves by train from Toccoa to Ft. Benning. The 2nd Bn forced marched, with full field equipment and weapons from Toccoa to Atlanta, a distance of about 120 miles. The 3rd Bn travelled from Toccoa to Atlanta by rail an then force marched from Atlanta to Ft. Benning, with full field equipment and weapons, 136 miles in 72 hours, in the cold, wet December weather, setting the world’s record for an endurance march."
