Despite a strong effort by the Cedartown players, the Bulldogs were unable to finish the season with a win as they lost to the Southeast Whitfield Raiders 27-14 Friday in a Region 6-AAA crossover game.
“I feel bad for the seniors,” head coach Mark Loudermilk said. “They are a bunch of good boys and I hate that their final season went the way that it did.”
The Bulldogs (2-8) and the Raiders (5-5) played a scoreless first half before heating up in the third quarter on a chilly night.
Cedartown struck first by taking advantage of a Southeast Whitfield fumble. The Bulldogs scored when Chan Borders took the ball in from four yards out. Radolfo Benedaris kicked the extra point to make it 7-0 with 7:21 showing on the third quarter clock.
The Raiders answered immediately, scoring just one minute and four seconds later when Tanner McCutchen threw a screen pass to Coty Burch and the sophomore took it 61 yards for a score. Carlos Ojeda kicked the extra point to tie the game at 7-7.
Southeast would take the lead for good with 1:10 left in the period when McCutchen snuck the ball in from a yard out on fourth down. Ojeda’s extra point made it 14-7.
In the fourth quarter, McCutchen scooted in from seven yards out with 8:45 showing on the clock to make it 20-7.
